Fieldwork begins for Kondey mosque construction

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed the fieldwork has begun for the construction of a modern mosque in Kondey, Gaafu Alifu Atoll. The fieldwork was inaugurated at a special ceremony by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir.

In October 2021, the Islamic ministry contracted Ameyn Maldives Private Limited to build a modern mosque in Kondey within a year at a cost of USD492,000. The ministry stated the mosque will be constructed to the most modern standards, with no columns on the inside of the building. The mosque will also be able to accommodate 300 worshippers at a time.

The Government of the Maldives has pledged to expand services in all parts of the country regardless of the residential population. The pledge includes building mosques in islands with low populations and completing renovations of mosques by the month of Ramadan.
