Vice President Faisal Naseem has launched Shaamil Adu, a screen reading software in Dhivehi language for persons with disabilities. He launched the software at a ceremony with senior representatives from the education sector in attendance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Naseem expressed his hope that the software would facilitate further opportunities for persons with disabilities. The vice president highlighted the broad role played by the government in providing opportunities for persons with disabilities, emphasising that the education sector promotes inclusivity during any school-related activity.
The screen reading software is the first software of its kind to be introduced in the Maldives. The software was developed by the Department of Inclusive Education in association with Javaabu Private Limited. It also addresses difficulties faced by the visually impaired in accessing various platforms popular among children with vision disabilities.
The software can be used on desktop computers as well as on Android and iOS platforms. It can be used both online and even without an internet connection. The user acceptance test was conducted in collaboration with Aminiya School and the Blind and Visually Impaired Association of the Maldives.
