Project to build 61 police stations to begin this year

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated a project to build 61 police stations will begin in April this year.

Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister Imran highlighted the importance the government places in protecting atoll residents from crime and said the establishment of the police stations will begin in April. The minister noted the government is committed to establishing police stations in all islands of the country and that a plan is now being formulated for the project to establish 61 stations. He expressed his hope that a large part of the project will be completed by the end of the year.

Home Minister Imran said the police stations will be built by an India-based company at a cost of USD48 million and that the government has prioritised developing and expanding police services in the atolls.
