Water, sewerage projects completed in four islands

Malé Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has completed the water supply and sewerage projects in four islands.

MWSC stated it has completed the water and sewerage projects in Maalhendhoo and Kudafari in Noonu Atoll, Kinolhas in Raa Atoll, and Goidhoo in Baa Atoll. The state utility company stated efforts are underway to commission the water and sewerage systems in Goidhoo. The systems in the other three islands have already been commissioned by senior officials of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Fenaka Corporation Limited, and MWSC at special ceremonies held on the islands. In addition, programmes are also being conducted to train operators to operate and maintain the systems.

MWSC stated the projects to establish water supply and sewerage systems in the islands included installing the main pipelines, reverse osmosis facilities, and water containers. The work also involved installing metres and establishing connections in households, as well as the construction of the main buildings and pumping stations. The company has also provided the generator sets, vehicles, and equipment to operate the systems.

The planning ministry contracted MWSC to establish the water and sewerage systems in the islands at a total cost of about USD10 million.
