No proposal received yet to develop a resort in Kanimeedhoo: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed the government has not yet received any proposals for the development of a resort in Kanimeedhoo, Thaa Atoll. He made the statement in response to a question at the Parliament of the Maldives regarding the progress of the development of a resort in Kanimeedhoo.

Speaking at the parliament, Tourism Minister Mausoom stated Kanimeedhoo was opened for bidding on April 8, 2021. However, the minister stated no proposals were submitted for the island when the bidding period expired on June 24, 2021. He did not provide details of any plans to reopen the island for bidding again.

Kanimeedhoo had previously been leased to a private party for fisheries and agriculture purposes. However, the island was removed from the mandate of the agriculture ministry and handed over to the Thaa Atoll Council temporarily in September 2019.
