Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has signed an agreement with Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to expand the container yard capacity at the Hulhumale’ International Terminal.
MPL stated the project is expected to improve its operational efficiency by acquiring land for the Hulhumale’ terminal. The newly acquired land is around 120,000sqft with a capacity to store over 2,000 containers.
MPL stated the agreement is expected to solve the issues it has faced due to the lack of storage space at the Male’ Commercial Harbour. The company also stated it aims to prepare for the increase in the number of goods imported to the country during the month of Ramadan by establishing mechanisms for the quick unloading of goods.
