Gov’t to conduct survey for expansion of Fuvahmulah Airport

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said the administration will conduct a technical survey to determine the extent to which the Fuvahmulah Airport could be expanded. He made the remarks at a special traditional feast held in Fuvahmulah City to celebrate the approach of the month of Ramadan.

Speaking to the residents of Fuvahmulah gathered for the feast, President Solih assured that the administration will fulfill its developmental pledges. As such, the president noted that the city council proposed an expansion for Fuvahmulah Airport and said the administration will consider the proposal after conducting a technical survey to determine the extent to which the airport could be expanded. He further revealed plans to resolve the housing shortages in the community, by announcing the construction of 200 housing units in the city, in addition to the 200 housing unit project that is currently in the tendering stage. He then revealed that the second phase of road construction will commence extending the road by 10km, as a continuation of the first phase of road construction in the city.

Furthermore, President Solih said the new 50-bed hospital to be developed in Fuvahmulah will offer specialty services for women and children. He also highlighted the plans to contract the harbour survey work to the company that had previously constructed the harbour in the city and disclosed the latest information regarding key developmental projects intended to alleviate the difficulties faced by residents, including resolving issues raised by fishermen, plans to develop a public swimming pool. He also divulged details of other projects that are currently underway in the city.

In addition, President Solih reiterated that his administration will seek counsel from the people and that all developmental initiatives in the city will align with the administration’s commitment to protecting the natural environment and ensuring sustainability for future generations.

Fuvahmulah City is the first stop of the four-day trip undertaken by President Solih and First Lady Fazna to the southernmost cities. They are accompanied by a delegation of cabinet ministers and senior officials from the government.
