President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City. He inaugurated the police academy at a special ceremony with the Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) stated the inauguration of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement will be a beacon of hope to build better-trained law enforcement officials ready to face any and all challenges and to promote peace and stability in the nation, region, and international nexus. The police service stated the academy is a culmination of its mission to build the skills and capacity of the police service to serve and protect Maldivian communities.
Furthermore, MPS stated the constant effort and hard work towards acquiring the needed resources and expertise for the betterment of the law enforcement sector resulted in new and strengthened relationships with international law enforcement partners and their esteemed academies. It added that it is grateful for their invaluable contribution in building the capacities of Maldives police officers and future leaders.
The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement is expected to facilitate the training of law enforcement officers across the country and allow residents of Addu to more easily participate in training and educational programmes conducted by MPS. The academy will also increase the capacity of law enforcement in the region.
The academy is an important step towards the pledge of President Solih to prioritise training police officers and expand police services to all inhabited islands.
