Gov't to take public input into account for Addu development

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solh has stated the development projects in Addu City will take into account input from the local council and residents. He made the remarks during a meeting held with members of Addu City Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) held to discuss issues concerning the progress of the city.

During the meeting, WDC members expressed gratitude towards the government for its efforts to empower women. Meanwhile, the council members noted the development projects currently underway in Addu are the largest in the city's history. The members then briefed President Solih on the latest updates regarding the ongoing projects in Addu and raised concerns on housing difficulties, tourism development, improving the services of Addu Equatorial Hospital, increasing the budget allocated to the Addu City Council, fixing maintenance issues at the Addu Zone Stadium and improving human resource capacity.

At the meeting, President Solih expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received upon his arrival to the city and said that the development projects on islands and in cities would take into account council and public input. The president and members of his delegation also briefed the council and the WDC on the latest updates of the developmental projects that are currently underway in the city. Following the discussions on the city's major projects, the president said the issues relayed by the council would be addressed and deliberated with the relevant government institutions and bodies.

President Solih met with the members of the Addu City Council and WDC during his four-day trip to the southernmost cities. He is accompanied during his trip by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a delegation of cabinet ministers and senior officials from the government.
