MTCC begins fieldwork of Kumundhoo harbour channel project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced fieldwork of the harbour channel dredging project in Kumundhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The project to dredge the entrance channel of Kumundhoo Harbour was contracted to MTCC at a price of USD2.27 million. The project was launched to resolve the difficulties faced by vessels in entering the Kumundhoo Harbour, due to high currents and sedimentation in the existing entrance channel.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate fieldwork of the project, CEO of MTCC Adam Azim assured the residents of Kumundhoo that the project will be completed to a high standard to ensure there are no further issues in the future. He said the project can be completed mid-year if the current speed of progress is sustained.

The project involves dredging 9,300 cubic metres for the new harbour basin and 4,900 cubic metres for the entrance channel. The project also involves construction of a 142m breakwater and a 198m revetment. In addition, MTCC will also develop a swimming area in the island under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
