The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement has begun its classes with a Diploma in Criminal Investigation course.
The course began with 27 investigation officers from the south-central police region in Thaa Atoll and Laamu Atoll, and officers from the south police region in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City.
The one-year course aims to teach the relevant laws, human rights principles, and functions of the criminal justice system in the Maldives, the crime deviance and criminology theories, best practices in the investigation and interviewing, the investigation methods and skills required to investigate specific crimes, and explain the information-gathering tools for an investigation.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City in March. The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement is expected to facilitate the training of law enforcement officers across the country and allow residents of Addu to more easily participate in training and educational programmes conducted by MPS. The academy will also increase the capacity of law enforcement in the region.
