Funds received for the development of seven hospitals in the atolls

Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed the government has received the funds for the development of seven hospitals in the atolls through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Health Minister Naseem said the development of seven hospitals in the islands will continue without delays, noting the funds for the project have been provided by the Kuwait Fund. He noted the fieldwork of the project is expected to begin later this year.

Ministry of Finance issued an announcement on April 6, seeking contractors for the development of 30-bed hospitals in seven islands. As such, the projects announced for tender include hospital development projects in Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll, Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll and Vilufushi in Thaa Atoll.

The hospital development projects are carried out as part of the government’s policy to strengthen healthcare services in the atolls. In addition to the hospital development projects in these seven islands, the government is also developing tertiary hospitals in five regions across the country.
