Aeroflot to resume operations to Maldives

Aeroflot, the flag carrier and largest airline in Russia, has decided to resume operations in the Maldives.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said Aeroflot will resume operations in the Maldives on April 14. Aeroflot suspended flights between the Maldives and Russia following the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. MACL said that flights between the Maldives and Russia will be operated every day of the week when the flights resume next month.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Aeroflot resumed operations in the Maldives on September 11, 2020. Initially, only two flights were operated per week by Aeroflot. However, it was soon increased to four weekly flights.

Prior to the suspension of Aeroflot flights, Russia recorded the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives. However, Russia has now fallen to the third-largest market. A total of 54,624 tourists have arrived in the Maldives from Russia so far this year.
