Ministry of Education has begun preparing for the O’level examinations, in which over 5,000 students are expected to participate this year.
The government had begun two academic years in the middle of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with the wishes of parents. The education ministry is now preparing to hold the O’level examinations for the second academic year that began during the pandemic. Exams will be held at 239 centres in the Maldives, and the Department of Public Examinations (DPE) will organise the examinations for Maldivian students abroad at the Maldives Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka and the Maldives Centre in Malaysia.
A total of 5,939 students will be participating in the O’level examinations. The education ministry began handing out test papers to examination centres on April 20 and is expected to complete the work on April 29. The ministry stated that students have already taken the Arts and Design test on April 13 and 14.
The education ministry had postponed some examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic and held the examinations after implementing the necessary health and safety measures. The ministry stated that it has special measures in place to allow students found positive for COVID-19 to participate in the O’level examinations.
