HDC opens 130 slots for apprenticeship programme

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has opened 130 slots for its 2022 apprenticeship programme.

HDC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment to hold the apprenticeship programme and develop skilled youth in the Maldives. The MoU was signed by the Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed and Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof. HDC will always provide career opportunities for the youth, Suhail said speaking at the ceremony.

The youth ministry began work to train over 3,000 young individuals to reinvigorate the economy after it was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the efforts, HDC has agreed to train 130 individuals to build their skill-set and to help start their careers. The company will be training apprentices in 10 fields including welding, plumbing, electronics, carpentry, as well as refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics. It will also train individuals for the positions of construction site officer, assistant building maintenance officer, mason, gardener, and heavy vehicle operator.

The apprenticeship programme will be conducted under the National Compliance Standards set by the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA). Individuals who complete the programme will achieve a level-three certificate recognised by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA).
