SWOT Analysis to be conducted on the development of an airport in Mendhoo

The Island Council of Hithadhoo, Laamu Atoll has issued an announcement seeking parties to conduct a Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) Analysis on the proposed development of an airport in Mendhoo, Laamu Atoll.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Hithadhoo Island Council Ibrahim Shamoon said the analysis aims to identify the feasibility of developing an airport in Mendhoo, and determine the costs which will be involved. He noted the study will also involve the preparation of a project engineering report and a risk assessment report. He added the costs of conducting the SWOT analysis will be undertaken by the Hithadhoo Council.

Meanwhile, the government has included the project to develop a causeway linking Hithadhoo and Kunahandhoo in Laamu Atoll in this year’s state budget. The Hithadhoo Island Council noted the development of an airport in Mendhoo, which shares the same lagoon, will be an added boost to the economic progress of the atoll.
