MIFCO’s Jazeera Reefer begins export operations

The new 2,500MT reefer vessel of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO), Jazeera Reefer, has undertaken its first export voyage.

The vessel was acquired in order to ease the export of fish through MIFCO. The vessel will be travelling to Thailand for its export operations.

MIFCO revealed 7 reefer vessels have been chartered from abroad to export fish so far this year. The state-owned fisheries company revealed the acquisition of its own reefer will increase the efficiency of export operations and reduce expenditure. The company said the vessel will be used for both cold storage and export.

The government is undertaking several projects to strengthen the fisheries sector and provide a fair and just income for local fishermen. As such, the expansion of MIFCO facilities in Kooddoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Felivaru, Lhaviyani Atoll as well as the development of other facilities are currently ongoing.
