National Pay Commission (NPC) has stated that it has completed the essential work towards increasing the wages for health workers.
Speaking to PSM News, Secretary-General of NPC Dr. Mohamed Faizal said a large amount of work has been done this year including obtaining expert recommendations for increasing the wages of health workers. He said NPC has held meetings with professionals working in the health sector including doctors and nurses and that most of the essential work towards increasing the wage of health workers has been completed. He said the commission is now working to bring changes to the salary structure for the health sector as soon as possible.
Additionally, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer said the government aims to improve wages across all sectors and to harmonise the salaries of workers doing the same amount of work. The minister also said that a new policy and framework will be formulated along with the changes to the salary structure for the health sector and that the changes will also be integrated into the state budget.
In a recent televised address to the nation, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the administration is committed to ensuring better wages for all in the workforce that contribute toward national progress and that studies are required to draw up the new salary structure for health sector workers are currently underway. He noted that completion of the pay harmonisation efforts will improve wages across all sectors.
