Air Asia resumes scheduled flights to Maldives

Air Asia has resumed flights between Malaysia and the Maldives after suspending the operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said that air Asia will hold two flights per week, every Tuesdays and Saturdays. The first Air Asia flight arrived in the Maldives with 150 passengers.

Tourist arrivals from Malaysia are expected to increase with the resumption of Air Asia flights to the Maldives. Tourist arrivals from Malaysia have been very low during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per statistics, a total of 582 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Malaysia in the first three months of this year. However, it was an increase compared to last year. A total of 69 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Malaysia in the first three months of 2021.
