Fieldwork begins for construction of mosque in Dhigurah

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali has officially launched the fieldwork for the construction of a new mosque in Dhigurah, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

The fieldwork was launched at a special ceremony by Minister Zahir and the President of Dhigurah Island Council Ibrahim Usman. They were accompanied at the ceremony by senior officials of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and council members.

The agreement to construct the mosque was signed in February and the project is expected to be completed by the end of April next year for a cost of USD470,000. The Islamic ministry stated the new mosque in Dhigurah has been designed to modern standards and will be able to accommodate 300 worshippers at a time.

Mosques are being constructed in various parts of the country as part of the government’s work to expand basic and essential services to all inhabited islands including small communities.
