Ministry of Health has revealed 139 new ambulances were dispatched to the atolls within the last three years.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adil said a high priority is given by the government to ensure ambulance services are provided in all inhabited islands without interruption. In this regard, the state minister highlighted the recent procurement of 96 ambulances through State Trading Organisation (STO), as well as the impending arrival of 8 new ambulances next month through the grant aid of the Government of Japan. He noted 139 new ambulances have been dispatched to the atolls over the last three years, resolving some of the difficulties faced in certain islands in accessing emergency healthcare services.
The government has been working on increase the capacity of the health sector of the Maldives by developing the required infrastructure, facilities and human resources. The administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has so far spent USD388 million on the development of the health sector.
