India reclaims top position among tourist source markets of the Maldives

India has become the top source market of tourists to the Maldives once again.

As per the latest statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives has recorded 647,945 tourist arrivals this year as of May 16, with India contributing 13% of this figure. India retook the position as the top source market of tourists to the Maldives, after overtaking UK which has contributed 12.6% of all arrivals. Russia is third on the list with 9.6%.

India had led the tourist arrivals to the Maldives last year, but fell behind Russia during the first three months of this year. Due to the decline of Russian tourist arrivals to the Maldives following the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the top spot of tourist source markets was taken by the UK in April.

As per the statistics, Maldives has recorded 71,155 tourist arrivals so far in May. This is 23% higher than the 57,693 arrivals recorded in May 2019.

The tourism ministry revealed the Maldives is currently recording an average of 4,764 tourist arrivals per day. A tourist spends an average of 8 days in the Maldives.
