Tourist arrivals in May exceed arrivals in same period in 2019

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that tourist arrivals recorded so far in May has exceeded the number of arrivals recorded in the same month in 2019.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show that 71,155 tourists arrived in the Maldives so far in May, which is a 24% increase compared to the 57,601 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The statistics show that May 1 saw the highest number of tourist visits this month, with 7,445 arrivals, and that an average of 4,764 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day.

The statistics from the tourism ministry show that a total of 647,945 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year, which is a 51% increase compared to the 430,656 arrivals recorded in the same period last year. However, the number of tourist arrivals this year is 7.9% lower compared to the 703,693 arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019. The highest number of tourists visited the Maldives from the India this year with 13% of the market share, with the second-highest being the UK with 12.6% of the market share.

The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
