State Trading Organisation (STO) has begun supplying concrete for the Thilamale’ Bridge project.

Afcons Infrastructure Limited contracted STO to supply ready-mix concrete for the Thilamale’ Bridge project earlier this month. The agreement was signed by Deputy Project Manager of Afcons V. Madhusudhan and Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr.

As per the agreement, STO is tasked with supplying a total of 7,500cbm of ready-mix concrete for the project for one year. The company stated that preparations have been made to supply the high-strength concrete by procuring the necessary resources and equipment for the ready-mix plant.

In a tweet, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amru announced that test piling for the bridge project has been completed. He then expressed his pride in STO for being partnered to provide concrete and extended his appreciation to the Government of India for enabling the project.

Thilamale’ Bridge is being developed under the Greater Male’ Connectivity Project (GMCP), contracted to Indian-based Afcons. The project scope includes the construction of three navigation bridges, viaducts, and on-grade roads, linking Male’, Villimale’, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu.

The GMCP is the single-largest infrastructure project in the Maldives and is expected to become a national economic engine, and a lifeline connecting Male' to Villimale', Gulhifalhu, and the Thilafushi Industrial Zone. The project is funded through a USD400 million line of credit from Indian Exim Bank and by a USD100 million grant from the Government of India.
