Over 700,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 700,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.

The statistics from the tourism ministry show 706,468 tourists have visited the Maldives as of June 1, which is a 55% increase compared to the same period last year, and a 6% decrease compared to the same period in 2019, which is prior to the pandemic.

The statistics show a total of 131,764 arrivals were recorded in January, 149,008 arrivals were recorded in February, and 150,739 arrivals were recorded in March. Additionally, a total of 145,279 arrivals were recorded in April, and 125,522 arrivals were recorded in May. The statistics show that May was a successful month with 22% more arrivals recorded compared to the same period in 2019.

The highest number of tourists visited the Maldives from India this year with 99,614 arrivals and 14% of the market share, with the second-highest being the UK with 88,043 arrivals. Russia is the third-largest source market with 67,088 arrivals. A daily average of 4,146 tourists visit the Maldives and spend an average of seven days on holiday.

The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
