Maldives Media Institute (MMI) has awarded certificates to 42 students that have graduated from various courses in 2021.
MMI awarded certificates to students who have graduated from courses such as level-one television presenting and news reading, level-three journalism, and level-three ladies' dressmaking. As such, 36 students graduated from academic courses while a total of 42 students graduated from courses and programmes including a programme on performance art.
The certificates and awards were presented by Minister of State for Economic Development Neeza Imad at a special ceremony. In her speech, State Minister Neeza said that journalism is an important field that publicises crucial information on important topics. She said that journalists play an important role in the country and that the government is working to provide more opportunities for students and further develop the field.
Furthermore, State Minister Neeza noted that Public Service Media (PSM) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development to conduct an apprenticeship programme on journalism under the COVID-19 Income Support Project. She added that the programme has begun with 16 participants.
MMI is currently working on conducting more course and training programmes while also providing assistance to schools that are establishing media clubs. The institute is also conducting training programmes at schools to increase awareness and interest in the field of journalism.
