Japan hands over classrooms built in Nolhivaranfaru School

The Government of Japan has officially handed over the completed four classrooms in Nolhivaranfaru School of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, built under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP).

The classroom building was handed over by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori to the Principal of Nolhivaranfaru School Ahmed Ali at a ceremony held at the school on June 6. Minister of State for Education Fathimath Naseer, together with officials from the Ministry of Education and the school management, joined the ceremony.

The assistance is in line with the grant contract signed between the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives and Nolhivaranfaru School on March 10, 2016. Under the grant, USD90,850 was donated to upgrade the school building and construct four classrooms, to cater to the increasing student population on the island.

The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation, and energy in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
