Aeroflot, the flag carrier and largest airline in Russia, has decided to increase its flights to the Maldives from June 10.
Aeroflot suspended flights between the Maldives and Russia following the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. However, the airline resumed flights in May. Aeroflot currently operates four flights a week, and the airline will operate six flights a week from June 10 onwards. The flights from Russia to the Maldives will be scheduled every day except Tuesdays following the decision to increase the number of flights.
Aeroflot resumed operations in the Maldives on September 11, 2020, after the country opened its borders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the suspension of Aeroflot flights, Russia was the largest market for Maldives tourism. Since the halt of flights due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russia has dropped to third place in the market rankings. A total of 67,088 tourists visited the Maldives from Russia as of June 1, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism.
