Tree Top Hospital submits request to begin IVF treatment

Tree Top Hospital has submitted a request to the Ministry of Health to receive permission to begin in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment.

IVF is a series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. Currently, only intra uterine insemination (IUI) treatment is available in the Maldives, which is a type of artificial insemination procedure for treating infertility. Studies show that IVF is more effective than IUI in increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Tree Top Hospital has conducted a survey which showed that such treatments are highly in demand in the Maldives. The hospital stated that it will begin IVF treatment after receiving permission from the health ministry.

The government and private healthcare providers are working to expand the health sector to reduce the cost of having to travel abroad for medical treatment. As part of the work, the main government health facility, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and the two largest private hospitals, ADK Hospital and Tree Top Hospital, have been introducing more healthcare services and treatment.
