200 essential workers to be transferred to state pay framework

National Pay Commission (NPC) has stated that a large part of the work has been completed to transfer over 200 essential workers to the state pay framework. Currently, only school teachers and principals are being paid under the state pay framework.

Speaking to PSM News, Secretary General of NPC Dr. Mohamed Faizal said that most of the work has been completed to transfer over 200 essential workers to the state pay framework and that the changes will be implemented in accordance with the funds provided by the state budget. He also said that discussions have been held with the Ministry of Health to transfer employees in the health sector to the state pay framework, and that the commission expects the work to be completed within 2-3 months.

Ministry of Finance has stated that the government has prioritised formulating a pay framework for the state as part of its strategic action plan and that the implementation of the framework will bring significant positive changes to employee salaries and benefits. It added that the work to formulate the framework is being conducted under a special process that includes evaluations and budgeting.

The framework aims to provide benefits to all state employees who are working at institutions that do not have a specific structure for providing benefits to employees who leave their jobs. Additionally, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the administration’s efforts towards pay harmonisation efforts will improve wages across all sectors.
