Three schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II to be opened next year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that three schools in Hulhumale’ Phase II will be open next year.

Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus service, President Solih highlighted the work being done to establish essential services for residents of Hulhumale’ Phase II and said that providing educational services is one of the administration’s highest priorities. As such, the president said the administration plans to develop eight schools and two pre-schools, adding that the construction of Salahuddin School will be completed by January next year and the construction of two pre-schools will be completed in August.

Salahuddin School will be the first school to be opened in Hulhumale’ Phase II. The Ministry of Education contracted Amin Construction Private Limited to build the school in 2021. Amin Construction is tasked with constructing the school with six floors and a capacity of 1,000 to 1,200 students within 390 days at a cost of USD7 million. The company has now begun construction of the building.

Furthermore, President Solih noted the residents of Hulhumale’ Phase II are using two temporary mosques built by the government and two mosques built by private companies. He said that the government is working to develop a new mosque with a capacity of 3,000 worshippers while a private contractor develops another mosque in Hulhumale’ Phase II. He also detailed that the government has decided to establish three clinics and three pharmacies and that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is opening the tender for the development of a hospital and working to expand health services in phase II.
