Addu designates areas food vehicles cannot operate

Addu City Council has designated areas where food services cannot be operated using vehicles.

The city council in a statement said the decision was made to designate public spaces, food vendors, goods, and vehicles as trade areas upon the request of many people. The council said food can be sold without a permit in areas other than the stated areas.

Food cannot be sold in Addu Equatorial Hospital and the surrounding area, in front of mosques in Hithadhoo, in front of state institutions and schools in Hithadhoo, in front of cafes and restaurants, in front of speeding zones on Shamsuddin Bodu Fandiyaaru Thakurufaanu Road, and on Hithadhoo streets and pavements, according to the statement. As such, street tables cannot be operated in these areas.

The city council has already ruled cart business cannot be operated without permission. The council decided to conduct the cart business in a separate area and ordered the registration of the carts.
