Import-Export revenue increases by 26% in May

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the Import-Export revenue for May had increased by 26% compared to the same period last year.

The Maldives recorded an import-export revenue of USD20 million last month which is an increase of 26% compared to USD16 million in revenue recorded in May 2021, as per the statistics published by Customs. The statistics also revealed that USD287 million in goods were imported last month, which is an increase of 52% compared to USD189 million in May 2021.

Oman, India, China, the UAE, and Singapore were the biggest contributors to imports. As such, USD51 million in goods were imported from Oman, while USD42 million in goods were imported from India, USD29 million were imported from China, USD28 million were imported from the UAE, and USD25 million were imported from Singapore. Among the most imported products include machinery, electrical equipment, food items, and oil products.

Furthermore, goods worth USD36 million were exported from the Maldives in May 2021 while the figure stood at USD47 million in May this year, which is an increase of 40%. The Maldives exported the highest number of goods to Thailand, the UK, Germany, India, and France last month. Around 58% of the goods were exported to Thailand while 10% were exported to the UK. Among the most exported products include fish products.

The statistics also revealed that 85 vessels entered the Maldives with cargo last month, while 114 vessels had left the country.
