Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed over 1,200 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Maldives during the past one week.

As per the latest statistics of HPA, 1,202 cases were reported between June 19 and June 25. This includes 528 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 452 cases from inhabited islands and 222 cases from resorts, industrial and other islands. The statistics also revealed 51 new hospital admissions were reported during this period.

In a press release issued last week, HPA stated that COVID-19 cases are increasing in various parts of the Maldives, with cases increasing by 185% in the third week of June compared to the second week. HPA urged the public to take extra precautions at this time, as numerous trips and events are being planned. As such, it advised individuals to wear masks at large gatherings, closed public spaces, and health facilities, and to self-isolate if showing signs of illness. It also urged individuals to avoid visiting patients at health facilities unless absolutely necessary and to complete the vaccine doses as soon as possible.

Additionally, HPA advised travellers to check the COVID-19 situation at their destination and to postpone trips to places reporting a high number of cases. It also urged travellers to check the COVID-19 policies at their destination and complete the vaccine doses, and obtain a vaccine certificate and insurance prior to travel.
