Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed that upgrading Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital to tertiary standards will conclude this year.
Responding to a question by a parliamentarian inquiring about the efforts exerted to develop the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital and when the project will be concluded, Minister Naseem said the upgrading of the atoll hospital to tertiary standards is already underway. He stated no funds were disbursed for the project despite being included in the state budgets for 2020, 2021, and 2022, preventing the work from being completed at the required speed. However, he assured the project will conclude later this year.
Moreover, Minister Naseem said a dialysis centre is currently being established in Naifaru Hospital, adding that the services of the centre will be launched in August this year. In addition, the minister mentioned that doctors required to expand services have been sent to the hospital as part of the conversion of Naifaru Hospital to a tertiary hospital. The services include ophthalmology services, scanning services, and orthopedic services, the minister said.
The development of the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital into a tertiary hospital is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
