First Lady urges parents to ensure children have a productive holiday

First Lady Fazna Ahmed has urged parents to ensure their children have a productive holiday. She made the remarks at the graduation ceremony of Chimes Preschool, which was held in the seminar room of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).

Delivering remarks at the ceremony, First Lady Fazna spoke about the importance of maximising the potential of the school holidays and urged parents and guardians to ensure their children have a productive holiday filled with new experiences. The first lady said the school holidays should be utilised to teach preschool graduates new things and spoke against familiarising the graduates with lessons from grade school textbooks. She said that it would cause the children to repeat the same lessons when they begin primary school, which may cause them to lose interest in their studies.

In addition, First Lady Fazna emphasized the importance of teaching children life skills such as toilet training and cleanliness. She also mentioned community and state-owned enterprise support for preschools.

First Lady Fazna presented awards and scrolls to 27 graduates at the ceremony. Chimes Preschool also presented her with a drawing of the names of the graduates, after which she spent time reading a storybook to the children. The Bridge Little Learners Preschool was established in 2012 with 233 pupils and was renamed the Chimes Preschool this June.
