NAKAI Alimatha Resort fined USD20,000 for dumping waste into ocean

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a USD20,000 fine to NAKAI Alimatha Resort for dumping waste in the ocean.

EPA stated that the resort business violated the waste management regulations and the Environmental Protection Act and was fined a total of USD20,374. NAKAI resorts group is required to pay the amount within 30 days.

The waste management regulations dictate that waste produced in the islands be transferred to the designated waste sites. The regulations make it illegal to dump waste in other areas such as lagoons, sandbanks, beaches, parks, and streets.
