High Court refuses to order Izzudheen School to stop using MES building

High Court of the Maldives has rejected a request to issue an order to stop Izzudheen School from using the old Male’ English School (MES) building.

The request was made by Male’ High Private Limited, which operates Mandhu College. The company previously received USD977,000 in compensation from the state after the Ministry of Education in 2015 took over the MES building, which had housed Mandhu College. In 2021, the Civil Court ordered the state to provide compensation for damages incurred but rejected the request to hand back the building to Male’ High.

Afterwards, Male’ High submitted the case to the High Court to issue an order for Izzudheen School to stop using the building and hand it over to the company. However, the court bench stated that issuing such an order would cause a huge inconvenience for students and parents.

Izzudheen School was opened at the old MES building in 2019.
