Promoting the Maldives as a destination for international sporting events is a presidential pledge.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof said efforts are being made to host more international sports events in the Maldives this year. He expressed hope that the athletes will succeed and that the event will enable the Maldives to be seen as a top travel destination. He also thanked President Solih for his commitment to developing the sports sector.
Also at the ceremony, President of ABBF Datuk Paul Chua noted the championship had previously been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed gratitude to the Maldives for hosting the event.
The championship, which takes place from July 15-21, is organised by the Bodybuilding Association of Maldives, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Sports and Community Empowerment. This year's competition features over 400 athletes and officials from 24 countries. A total of 20 local athletes will be competing in the event.
