Ministry of Finance has issued an announcement seeking contractors to develop the proposed hospitals in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll and Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.
The finance ministry announced the development of the two hospitals have been placed on tender again, after nullifying the previous announcement issued in January this year. The finance ministry said bids will be accepted from registered Maldivian companies that meet the guidelines for construction companies set by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure. Bidders are required to submit a bid security of USD 45,000 for each project.
The construction of the hospital in Ihavandhoo is expected to take three years at a cost of USD 4.6 million, while the hospital in Hinnavaru is expected to take three years and cost USD 3.4 million. Developing hospitals in these islands is an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The government is undertaking several efforts to expand and upgrade the healthcare services provided in the atolls. As such, efforts are underway to develop tertiary hospitals in five regions of the Maldives, as well 26 other hospitals across the atolls.
