Over 900,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far this year

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 900,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.

The latest statistics from the tourism ministry show 900,808 tourists have visited the Maldives as of July 20, which is a 58% increase compared to the 572,123 arrivals recorded same period last year. The Maldives is currently recording a daily average of 4,482 tourist arrivals. Tourists spend an average of eight days in the Maldives.

Over 100,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded during each of the first six months, with the highest number of tourists visiting the Maldives in March, which saw a total of 150,748 tourist arrivals and 25,014 arrivals in the first six days.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India, with 132,151 arrivals or 15% of the market share. The second highest number of tourists visited from the UK with 104,667 arrivals, and the third highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 94,151 arrivals.

China was the top source market prior to the COVID-19 pandemic but the recorded number of visits has significantly decreased since then. However, the Maldives is seeing an increase in arrival numbers from emerging markets such as the United States (US), Switzerland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Spain.

Additionally, the tourism ministry revealed a total of 1,167 tourist facilities are in operation across the Maldives, which include 163 resorts, 849 hotels and guesthouses, and 155 liveaboards.
