ADK and STO sign radiography internship agreement

ADK Hospitals Private Limited and State Trading Organisation (STO) have signed an agreement to provide internships to participants of the Diploma in Radiography course.

The agreement was signed by the Managing Director of ADK Hospital Ahmed Affal and the General Manager of STO Mariyam Nuzla. The agreement aims to provide field experience at ADK Hospital to participants of STO’s radiography course.

STO is making preparations to begin the course with collaboration from GE Healthcare. The course consists of a two-year theoretical portion and a six-month training portion.

Radiography is a technique for generating and recording an x-ray pattern for the purpose of providing the user with static images after the termination of the exposure. It is used to diagnose or treat patients by recording images of the internal structure of the body to assess the presence or absence of disease, foreign objects, and structural damage or anomaly.

Radiographers are needed to operate x-ray machines, ultrasound scanners, MRI machines, and mammography units. Currently, a larger number of radiographers working in the Maldives are foreigners. As such, the Ministry of Health aims to train more Maldivians for the positions by conducting courses with STO and the Maldives National University (MNU).

The STO Diploma in Radiography course will follow GE Healthcare’s curriculum, which includes learning in classrooms and training in laboratories. The graduates will be able to participate in a degree programme conducted by MNU. The course is in line with the regulations of the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) and the Maldives Allied Health Council. Graduates of the course will receive a level-5 national certificate.
