Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has conducted 117 activities to promote the Maldives as a top travel destination so far this year.
Speaking on a programme on TVM, Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed said that MMPRC conducted 260 activities for 22 markets last year and that the company has prioritised participating in fairs and roadshows this year to compensate for the missed events in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, he said that MMPRC has so far participated in 27 fairs, two roadshows, and conducted 65 marketing activities, and 13 familiarisation trips with 100 individuals.
Furthermore, Thoyyib said that the biggest lesson MMPRC has learned from the pandemic is to not rely on specific markets. He expressed confidence that the Maldives will reach 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year. He noted that over 900,000 tourists have visited so far this year and that the arrival figures are expected to remain constant.
MMPRC has planned more activities for this year including participating in more fairs and conducting more familiarisation trips. The company has also been working with tour operators, international airlines, and travel magazines to promote the Maldives as a top travel destination.
