Ministry of Education has revealed over 1,500 applications have been received for entry into schools in the Greater Male’ Region for the new academic year.
Speaking at a press conference held ahead of the start of the new academic year, Senior Policy Director at the Ministry of Education Moosa Adam said the ministry usually receives about 500 applications of students from the atolls seeking entry into schools in the Male’ area ahead of a new academic year. However, he said over 1,500 applications have been received this year, including 550 applications for entry into Grade 1. He attributed the increase in applications to the increase in the number of people migrating from atolls following the development of Hiya flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The education ministry said a total of 5,260 admissions applications have been received, including applications of students already studying in Male’ area schools. The ministry revealed responses have been issued to 5,100 applications, while more applications are still incoming.
The government is undertaking multiple projects to develop additional schools in the Greater Male’ Region, especially in Hulhumale’ Phase II. As such, the first school of Hulhumale’ Phase II is expected to open next month.
