Ministry of Tourism has stated the Maldives is expected to achieve the target of 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
Speaking at the ceremony held to celebrate the arrival of the one-millionth tourist of 2022, Minister of State for Tourism Dr. Ahmed Solih noted the administration had set a target of 1.6 million tourist arrivals for the year. He said with respect to the current arrival figures, the target is expected to be achieved by October or November.
Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have increased significantly this year, with the ease of travel restrictions that were imposed by several countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, the tourist arrivals recorded in July 2022 were also 1.1% higher than July 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
