Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has opened a youth centre at the Hiyaa flats.
The ministry stated the youth centre is located at Tower H10, making it easy for residents of Hiyaa to visit the centre, which is open to young people, children, and all local residents. The youth centre consists of equipment for table tennis, foosball, and carrom.
The population of Hiyaa flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II now exceeds 22,000 residents. Hiya is the largest public housing project in Hulhumale' Phase II, which consists of 6,720 housing units to accommodate over 30,000 people. Currently, around 5,000 housing units are occupied as a large number of residents had begun moving to the Hiya flats at the start of the year.
HDC has been working to establish essential services in the Hiyaa flats area, including waste management services. Additionally, seven shops, two supermarkets, two clinics, a pharmacy, and a bakery have also been opened. Furthermore, three cafes, a salon, a mosque, and two temporary mosques have been built in the area, and a police station was also opened. HDC has also installed 768 cameras in four towers of the Hiyaa housing project and plans to install a total of 3,072 cameras in all the towers.
