Maldives Polytechnic to be developed to modern standards

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that Maldives Polytechnic will be developed to modern standards in order to expand training opportunities. He made the remarks at the orientation ceremony for the August intake.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hassan said technical and vocational training opportunities have been available across the Maldives for a long time and that Maldives Polytechnic has been establishing relations with stakeholders of various industries. He, however, said that technical and vocational skills are still not receiving enough respect.

Therefore, Minister Hassan said that plans have been made to develop Maldives Polytechnic to modern standards with assistance from the World Bank and the MEERY project. He said the work involves establishing a library and IT laboratory. He also said that graduates can change public perceptions on their trade by their discipline and work ethic.

Maldives Polytechnic offers technical and vocational courses for various sectors, ranging from certificate to diploma level courses. The government training institute has also been establishing campuses in various parts of the Maldives.
