A delegation of World Health Organisation (WHO) experts has arrived in the Maldives to provide technical advice on controlling non-communicable diseases and improving health facilities.
The delegation included experts from the WHO Maldives Office, Regional Office and Headquarters, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC).
During the visit, the WHO delegation will consult with relevant authorities, civil society organisations, and officials of cancer facilities in the Maldives. The delegation will examine the plans for cancer control, cancer treatment, and cancer patient information and services provided in the Maldives. The delegation will also learn about the prevention and treatment system for lifestyle-related cancer and other chronic diseases. Upon conclusion of the visit, the delegation will make recommendations to the Government of the Maldives on the required improvements needed in the primary health care system and at the central level to improve the health care services.
The WHO delegation will be in the Maldives until August 25.
