Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Ali states the remarkable achievements of the students prove the hard work done by students, teachers, and parents, noting over 1,000 students achieved the Top 10 awards. She made the statement speaking at the Top Achievers' Award 2020-2021. The ceremony was also held over two nights due to the large number of students who received awards.
The past two years have been difficult for the education system of the Maldives due to many challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Maldives has become one of the few countries in the world that has adapted to changing circumstances and has continued to provide education uninterrupted. Although students were not able to physically attend the classrooms, teaching via online platforms was commenced across the country.
The academic year 2021–2022 is a remarkable year for the education sector. It will be recorded as a year in which 1,105 students achieved the Top 10 awards. A total of 5,955 students sat the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and secondary examinations, while another 2,641 students took the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and higher secondary examinations.
Meanwhile, a total of 757 students in the secondary examinations were included in the national top 10 rankings, while 13 were in the world's top 10 for individual subject achievements. Six students won the High Achievement Award. In the higher secondary examinations, 348 students were placed in the national top 10, and 41 students won places in the world's top 10 for individual subject achievements.
