Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has revealed that the earthquake in Indonesia was felt over the Maldives.
The Met Office revealed that a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 hit Indonesia's western province of West Sumatra, 2,854km away from Male'. The tremors of the earthquake were felt in the Maldives, although there are no threats of a tsunami. The tremors prompted people from evacuating buildings in Male' City. Some islands also reported tremors during the same time, according to Met Office.
Indonesia straddles the Pacific Ring of Fire where different tectonic plates of the Earth's crust meet and create frequent seismic activity.
